The studio
Two people and a lot of coffee.
Artificer Foundries is a tiny game studio. We make the games we’d want to play, and we hide far too many secrets in them.
The crew
-
Seth Robertson
Founder
Fun fact I have 500+ hours of flight time in a Cessna 172 (not a flight simulator).
-
Dustin Sims
Founder
Fun fact I can wiggle my forehead up and down in a weird way.
How a game gets made
From Spark to Game
Every game we make rides the same conveyor belt through the Foundry. Six stops, no magic, a lot of trying again.
-
Step 1 of 6
Idea
Every game starts as a tiny spark: “What if you could throw the mascot across the room?” We write down dozens and keep the one that makes us grin.
-
Step 2 of 6
Sketch
Before we build anything, we draw it. Doodles, maps, arrows and a lot of question marks. Paper is cheap, so this is where we change our minds.
-
Step 3 of 6
Prototype
Next comes a rough version you can actually play: gray boxes, no pretty art, lots of wobble. It only has to answer one question. Is this fun?
-
Step 4 of 6
Playtest
We hand it to friends and watch them play. Where they laugh, we do more of that. Where they get stuck, we fix it. Then we do it all again.
-
Step 5 of 6
Polish
Now the fun part gets dressed up: art, music, sounds and a hundred tiny touches that make every jump and every button press feel good.
-
Step 6 of 6
Ship
Out the door and onto your screen! Then we read what players say, fix what broke, and go looking for the next spark.
What we care about
Three rules on the workshop wall
-
Fun first.
If it isn’t fun to poke, it isn’t done yet. We play everything until it makes us grin.
-
Sweat the details.
Every character, sound and secret gets poked, tuned and poked again until it feels just right.
-
Kind to players.
Fair games, no nasty surprises, and sound that stays off until you ask for it. Everyone’s welcome at the Foundry.
